Nursery Chest /Side Units/Changing Units

A changing unit is a very practical buy, the main objective of a changing unit is firstly of safety and secondly of convenience. A Baby Changing Unit is designed to raise your baby up to about your waist height so that you don't have to kneel on the floor or bend over the bed to change your baby's nappy. So when you use a changing unit you are reducing the strain on your back which can be associated with changing your baby on the floor or bending over a bed. Also the changing unit can allow you to have everything on hand such as your nappies, wipes and creams without have to watch baby and search for items at the same time.

Changing units usually consist of a 'changer' which sits on top of a combination of drawers or shelves designed to everything you need for baby. The safety aspect of the changer is that a changer would normally have raised sides or raised edging going around the top where your changing mat insert can fit so preventing the baby from rolling off the changer. Once you stop using the unit as a changer it easily adapts to a normal chest of drawers by removing the sides from around the top of the unit.

When choosing a changing unit it is important to consider the height of the person who will be predominatley changing the baby. A few things to look out for - a strong sturdy unit with good storage shelves, presses or drawers.

Please note that no baby should ever be left unattended on a changing unit.
